Description:4to, 139 ff, title printed in red in fine woodcut border, with numerous woodcut diagrams, beautiful initials. Occasional printed pointing hands or stylised foliage in the margins. Bound in 17th cent. red morocco, gilt border on both sides, spine and edges gilt, inside dentelle, marbled endpapers
Note:Heraldic bookplate 'ex libris Liechtensteinianis'. Ref. Sandys II, 110: "... the traditional interpreters of Aristotle were set aside and the original Greek text restored of a position of supremacy by Leonico Tomeo, an admirer of Plate and Cicero, who, by the vigour of his attack on scholasticism, and by the beauty of his style, opened a new era in the scholarly study of Aristotle." Leonico Tomeo (1456-1531) born at Venice, he was one of the first professors of Greek descent to teach Greek in Padua. Ref. Adams L-502; Durling 2749.
