Upper margin of title and strip of blank space in the middle replaced by new paper presumably removing owner's name. Bound in polished calf gilt, flat spine gilt, blue edges, inner dentelle, marbled endpapers, corners slightly bumped
Note:FIRST EDITION OF ANY PART OF DIODORUS' HISTORY IN ITS ORIGINAL GREEK. Diodorus was a Sicilian Greek historian. Of the forty books written by him only 15 survived (1-5 and 11-20). The present edition comprises books 16-20 which includes the entire section on Alexander the Great, edited by Vincentius Kock, called Obsopoeus. A Latin translation of books 1-5 by Poggio Bracciolini appeared in 1472. The prefatory note in this edition is a hymn on the blessings of the art of printing (see Botfield Prefaces, 1861, p 396 ff).
