Rest. at lower end of spine, red edges, new end lvs., some small holes in the leather of the lower board | Note: | Hubert Goltzius (1526-1583), humanist. Christian Dekesel (Hubert Goltzius: The Father of Ancient Numismatics, 1988) notes that "The influence of Hubertus Goltzius upon numismatics is mostly underestimated. One forgets very easily that he was the first author who wrote and published a comprehensive view upon the coinage of the Ancients and that he was also the first to do that on the basis of a real contact with some of the great coin cabinets of the civilized Renaissance world...."
Ludovicus Nonnius a.k.a. Nuņez (1553- 1645) was physician and humanist, from Portuguese descent (a convert), but born in Antwerp.
