Description:4to oblong, 71 pp, printed in gothic script, illustrated with 25 maps / plates, numbered 0-31. Lacking 1-2, 6, 19-20, 25-26. Small marginal hole repaired in the first map. Contents: the voyage of Willem Barentsz., a Dutch explorer, who gave his name to the Barents Sea. Includes Nova Zembla, Spitsbergen, Lapland, Siberia. He hoped to find the Northeast passage above Siberia to China. Modern blue paper boards
Note:First voyage was in 1594, the second in 1595, the third in 1596. Gerrit the Veer, the ship's carpenter, kept the diary for the second and third expedition. Barentsz died at sea in 1597. First edition was published in 1598, this copy has no title page or colophon
