Handsome, early edition of A. Traversari's classic translation of the "Lives of the Philosophers, " which was edited by Benedetto Brognolo. Much of our biographical knowledge of ancient Greek philosophy is derived from this work. The final section is devoted entirely to Epicurus, and includes Epicurus' "Letter to Herodotus".
Our edition is included in many of the standard bibliographies of Incunabula: Goff D226 (one copy); Hain 6198; Klebs 338.9 (1498-1500?); but GW VII, 436 states (not before 1504) and Moreau's INVENTAIRE PARISIENNES I, p. 317 states "circa 1509"
