Note:Coloured copy of a lovely world atlas by Isaak Tirion: "his maps excel in style and exactness ... [with] a homogeneous character" (Koeman III, p. 126). As noted on the title-page, the maps are largely based on the work of Guillaume De l'Isle in Paris, the greatest cartographer of the early 18th-century.
The maps of America are unusually detailed, including New England, California, Mexico and the Carribean, the area around the future Panama Canal, Guayana, Suriname, Cayenne and its fortress on the coast of modern French Guiana, Peru, Salvador de Bahia. Our copy does not have the maps of Martinique, New Orleans, Canada and Quebec. From the Netherlands we do not have: 'Nederkwartier Utrecht' & 'Overkwartier Utrecht'.
But our copy has two extra maps, not announced in Koeman: 'Reizen van den Hr. Anson rondsom de Wereld' and 'Kaart van de Papoasche Eilanden', (1753). Complete list upon request.
Cf. Koeman Tir 4 (Our copy does not follow the same order and does not have the maps published after 1765)
