Description:8vo, 492, [493-496] + 70, [1] pp, printed in red and black, within woodcut borders, with title-vignette and 19 very fine copper engraving - illustrations (Jan WIERIX, Peeter vander BORCHT, Jan SADELER and Pieter HUYS). Some dampstaining in the inner margins at the beginning and the end of the vol. Pages 325/326 in xerox. Our copy is more complete, with 70 extra pages of prayers at the end, not announced in Voet. Old ms. notes on flyleaf. Old calf binding, richly gilt, with gilt borders, gilt dog and bird. Upper cover with the lettering "Officium B. Mariae virginis" Spine richly gilt, all edges gilt
Note:This is one of the earliest printings of the reformed Horae, now entitled Officium BMV by the Council of Trent in 1572.
Ref. BCNI 3423 ; Voet 1770 variant B: "version with copper engraving-illustrations and woodcut-borders. No copy known". MPM has a copy with engraved borders and engravings and another copy with woodcuts and woodcut borders, but not the combination as in our copy. Ref. K.L. Bowen, Christopher Plantin's books of hours (1997), p. 238-239: reports a copy of 1770B in Brussels, KBR, figs. 89-99. But the copy in the KBR does not have the 'Flight into Egypt' on p. 119, as our copy does
